Announcing…our next public event: a panel discussion on Food Justice! FREE and open to the public. Do you love food? Are you passionate about wellness? Food justice is at the heart of any discussion on food and wellness equity. Access to healthy, nutritious, and culturally appropriate foods should be the right of all people, but many communities face structural barriers due to systemic racism.
What should we be paying attention to when it comes to food justice? How can we become advocates locally and beyond? Our panelists will share experiences with the communities they serve and provide actionable steps for how to become part of the food justice movement.
Panelists include:
Jillian Semaan is the Director of Food and Environment at EARTHDAY.ORG. Previously as an appointee in the Obama Administration, she served as Chief of Staff of Civil Rights at the United States Department of Agriculture where she created and implemented government initiatives that were focused in underserved communities, low-income areas and food deserts.
Claudio Rodriguez is a migrant, OG (Organic Gardener/Gangsta) and environmental justice organizer in Tucson, Arizona. He has over ten years of community organizing experience in migrant, environmental and food justice issues.
Johane M. Filemon, MS, RDN, CLT is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with over 15 years of experience in the field of Nutrition. On her podcast Nutrition Lifestyles with Kim & Johane, she regularly challenges listeners to find ways to help their neighboring communities in the fight for food justice.
